Hurricane Cactus (Lepismium Cruciforme)

$38.00

Order for pickup only at 185 Queen Street East, Toronto.

Lepismium cruciforme is a highly branched cactus with long, segmented stems that have scalloped edges lined with tufts of short, white hairs but no spines. The stem segments are thick, fleshy, highly variable, flat, sometimes 3-, 4-, or even 5-angled, and can grow up to 20 inches (50 cm) long and 0.8 inches (2 cm) wide. They are green, usually suffused with purple, and can become almost maroon in full sun.

Unlike most cacti that grow in dry and arid climates, Hurricane Cactus is epiphytic, found growing on trees and rocks in Central and South American rainforests.

Plants and pots sold separately.

Bright indirect or bright direct light.

Water sparingly, when the top 1-2" of soil feels dry.

No - Can cause mouth irritation and digestive reaction.

Since this plant is native to rainforests, it will need significantly more water than most cacti or succulents. It does not thrive in full sun or direct sunlight. On the other hand, it needs enough sunlight in order to bloom, and without enough light, the growth will be stunted. Be sure to give it well-draining soil, but don’t let it dry out too much between waterings.
