This complex hybrid is a cross between P.Heterophylla, P.Medusina and P.Gigantea. I has an attractive semi upright form and leaves that are wide at the base and pointed at the end. It can grow to be up to 6 inches in diameter.
Mexican Butterwort are some of the easiest carnivorous plants to grow. In the wild, many Mexican Pinguicula grow in seasonal fog forests on limestone cliffs and tree trunks. Some grow in moss, others just cracks in the rocks, quite often on north facing cliffs with little or no direct sunlight.
During the warm humid summer months, the leaves are sticky and carnivorous, trapping and digesting small prey such as fruit flies and fungus gnats. If allowed to dry out more during the winter they can enter a succulent phase where they will develop thicker, water-retaining leaves that are less/not carnivorous.
These plants should be kept slightly moist at all times, but not boggy like many other carnivorous plants. During the summer, they will produce pretty upwards growth blooms given the right conditions.
This plant is non-toxic.
