This is a wonderful little species that almost looks like a little succulent. Pinguicula esseriana has tight rosettes are about the size of a quarter/loonie at full maturity that blush pink when grown under high light. In bloom, they have light lavender flowers are just adorable. This species stays delicate and small.
During the warm humid summer months, the leaves are sticky and carnivorous, trapping and digesting small prey such as fruit flies and fungus gnats. If allowed to dry out more during the winter they can enter a succulent phase where they will develop thicker, water-retaining leaves that are less/not carnivorous.
These plants should be kept slightly moist at all times, but not boggy like many other carnivorous plants. During the summer, they will produce pretty upwards growth blooms given the right conditions.
This plant is non-toxic.
