Sarracenia Farnhamii is a naturally occurring hybrid of S. leucophylla x rubra. This hybrid develops bright red, green and white pitchers with eye catching areoles (windows). It readily grows divisions and forms large clumping pots. As with many S. leucophylla hybrids, it has great vigor late into fall as the weather cools.
In nature, the plant grows in bogs and wetlands, where it typically forms clumps of upright, trumpet-shaped leaves that are green with reddish-brown veins. Sarracenia farnhamii is a relatively small pitcher plant, with leaves typically reaching lengths of around 15-30 cm. The flowers are also small and inconspicuous, and typically appear in late spring or early summer.
Like many other carnivorous plants, Sarracenia require rainwater, distilled water, or deionised water, and lots of it! This is because they grow in low-nutrient waterlogged soil, and evolved to draw minerals from prey instead. As such, you must avoid tap water, bottled water and filtered water - all will result in a build-up of minerals and cause your plant’s health to deteriorate. You should not use fertiliser for similar reasons.
